From Adversary to Ally focuses on how to coach the inner critic, a common obstacle in coaching practices. No matter what kind of coaching we specialize in, we all encounter that nagging voice inside our heads telling us we’re not measuring up somehow. We feel it firsthand as it stops us from confidently growing our businesses, makes us think we need yet another certification or course, or holds us back from charging our true worth. And it’s not just us - our clients face it too. Whether it’s in their struggles with confidence, battling feelings of being a fraud, or getting stuck in procrastination and confusion.

Despite various tools available, many only provide temporary relief without addressing the root cause. In this session, attendees will learn a process to overcome the negative messages of the inner critic voice. Combining skills of a performing musician with principles of coaching, attendees will learn what’s needed to successfully, sustainably, and predictably train the mind into new more beneficial patterns of thought. There will be client examples to learn from, detailed descriptions of each phase in the process, and a worksheet to help attendees experience the entire method. The four phases of this process are easy to learn and remember.

The power and sustainability of this method come from the depth of understanding and compassion each phase brings to the client. The four phases of this process get to the root of the issues clients are facing and create custom-designed solutions to their custom created blocks. Attendees will discover how affirming with compassion the intention of the inner critic not only allows it to step back, but provides powerful information with which to move forward.

Benefits to the Audience:

  • What to do when your critical voice shows up.
  • To recognize the lies it tells and why you believe them.
  • How to alleviate the suffering caused by negative self-talk.
  • How to create thoughts that support you.

Learning Objectives:

  • Create a strategy for dealing with negative self-talk.
  • Design messages that are supportive and rooted in personal circumstances.
  • Use the steps taught to begin a new daily practice that will reprogram thoughts.

As a classical musician, Paul Boehnke stumbled on a unique process that not only helped his performances but could easily be applied to taming the negative thoughts of his inner critic. Then he realized this process not only works for him but works for everyone, musician or not.

In his book, "Thoughts On Demand: Turn Negative Self-Talk into Unstoppable Confidence" he shares the process that he uses to help clients transform that little voice in their heads that argues for their limitations into a champion of their potential instead.
