Heather Thomson, CEC, ACC, CPQC
Director of Membership

membership@icfedmonton.com

I am excited to serve as the Director of Membership for the ICF Edmonton Chapter.  My formal coach journey began in 2019 when I attended Royal Roads University and received my Certified Executive Coach certification.  In 2020, I received my Associate Certified Coaching designation from the International Coaching Federation.

In June of 2022, I retired from a 29-year career in education to pursue my coaching practice full-time and am loving every moment of it.  I am the owner of Bold and Brave Coaching and co-owner of Lumilead Inc. a leadership development and training company.

In my spare time, I volunteer for the Women In Leadership national organization and am the Alberta Chapter Chair.  I love anything to do with leadership and could spend hours talking about it.   My passion lies in supporting new and aspiring leaders as they partake in their leadership journey. I co-authored "Mind The Gap: Navigating Your Leadership Journey" which was written for new and aspiring leaders-it was the book I wished I had starting out on my leadership journey.

I have a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology.  I am accredited in Emotional Intelligence and Personality Dimensions.   I am a Certified Executive Coach and have my ACC designation from the International Coaching Federation.  In addition, I am trained as a Certified Positive Mental Fitness Coach, Rethinking Impostor Syndrome Coach Practitioner, and a Licensed Rethinking Impostor Syndrome Speaker.

As the Director of Membership, I am looking forward to connecting with coaches and supporting members on their coaching journey.

Karmen Masson, CEC, PCC
Director of Programming
programs2@icfedmonton.com

I am excited to serve in 2022 and 2023 as Co-Director of Programs for the Edmonton ICF Charter Chapter. Lifelong learning and contribution to the community are two of my core-essential values, so I expect to enjoy this journey!

My path to becoming a professional coach has had a lot of twists, turns, and learnings. My first career began in the late ‘90s when I worked as a lawyer in private practice, then moved to public-sector practice where I also served as a senior manager and executive leader. At the height of my legal career, my partner and I had 2 children, and in my ‘spare time’ I led the development of a local charitable organization and taught law at the post-secondary level.

After experiencing how coaching skills were the ‘secret sauce’ in my effectiveness as a leader, mentor, facilitator, and parent, I attended Royal Roads University and graduated as a Certified Executive Coach in 2017. That same year, I started my own coaching practice and leadership development consultancy Karmen Masson Professional Coaching & Consulting and have since founded Your Best Practice - Coaching For Lawyers.

I look forward to getting to know the other Chapter coaches (new and seasoned) and helping to make a difference in the lives of others, one coaching conversation at a time!

JP Madden
Director of Public Relations
pr@icfedmonton.com

My background is in sales and marketing and I believe passionately in the power of the message. I believe public relations begins with listening and truly hearing your audience. WIthout that, any outbound communication is at risk of falling flat. I am excited about the opportunity to support the Edmonton ICF chapter’s efforts to engage with its wider audience.

I began my coaching practice working with entrepreneurs in the area of communication and leadership. And while his practice evolves he keeps the centre of his work around helping clients improve their communication.

In working with leaders, JP is trained in EQi-2.0 assessments and leverages insights in a leader’s emotional intelligence to improve their team communications. JP is pursuing ICF accreditation and sees great value in CIF membership.

This is his first year on the ECC board, and JP is eager to assist ICF Edmonton in its efforts to grow its presence within the local coaching community and beyond!
